Sometimes parenting kids can be such a challenge, little brothers pestering big sisters, struggles over getting homework started, driving lessons, sports practice, Confirmation night and just plain sharing a conversation.
Where is that instruction manual that could help raise these kids?

We will not be holding an on-site VBS/Camp this summer. Lack of volunteers and dates for camp didn’t work for us to have the event at our location this summer. Instead, we have been invited to attend VBS with Trinity Church and St. Katharine Drexel, from Sunday, August 2nd through Wednesday, August 5th in the evenings. More information will be printed and coming soon. Please, if you can help in this wonderful joint adventure, give the Church Office a call.
Thank you.

A Fresh “Splash” for Baptism Preparation

The Milestone Ministry Team has created a fresh, family-oriented baptism ministry. Families who wish to have their child baptized at First will have an experience that is about more than just on the baptism day. To help parents celebrate their child’s baptism continuously throughout the child’s growing years, we have created a program with three encounters before the baptism and an ongoing ministry post-baptism.

Change of Plans for Retirees

It was announced at the last meeting of Retirees that a special guest, Pat Just from Cedar Grove, WI, would speak to the group about the Maasai Well Project on Wednesday, March 11th. The program has been rescheduled to a later date in the spring. At that time Retirees will hear about a project to help the Maasai tribe in Kenya, East Africa dig wells for a water supply. It has been a challenge but after many struggles and setbacks, the digging of two wells has moved forward. Pat and other family members have visited the area and speak of the many experiences and insights they have gained from being a part of bringing water to the Maasai tribe. The date of the program will be announced.
On Wednesday, March 25th, it will be a ‘wearing of the green’. Come and be surprised! You needn’t be Irish to enjoy the day. You can be sure Evelyn White will have more than one Irish dish that is sure to please. So, see you there?

Together We Can Make A Difference

Recheck’s Food Pride and their wholesaler, Nash Finch Co., are pleased to offer a program called Labels for Learning. This program is designed to help schools, churches and other non-profit organizations raise funds for items they need by collecting and redeeming UPC bar code labels from “Our Family” brand products, available at Recheck’s. Money earned can be used as each organization sees fit. Here at First, the money earned will be designated to the Help Fund. Each barcode is worth 5 cents ($25 per bundle of 500 submitted). Sorry, register receipts cannot be accepted. This is a very easy way for us to assist the Help Fund. Thank you!

Help Fund Challenge

A Sunday School student expressed a concern about people in our church that are in need. It was suggested that the SS give $100 to the Help Fund. But, not to stop there, it was then suggested that the Kids’ Council challenge the other groups and or individuals to also contribute $100 to the Help Fund. So the challenge is on. We hope you can help.
Thank you.
**Just a note—the SS children have contributed to the Help Fund in the past as well as to other areas here and beyond the doors of the SS to help those in need.

Womens Retreat

This year's Women Retreat will be held the weekend of April 24 - 26. We will be going back to Pine Lake Bible Camp in Waupaca. We have just received word that we will be in the new cabin for the weekend. This cabin has been built for adults only and is more hotel style. That means there will be 1-3 ladies in a room with a bathroom
between each two rooms.
We will be studying Mary, the mother of Jesus. It should be very interesting.

Pictoral Directory is on Schedule

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the arranging for appointments during the past weeks. Also, we are pleased with all who have made appointments for picture taking at Haas Studio . In case you did not receive a call or were still thinking about an appointment, there is still time to call Haas Studio. If all continues on schedule the directory should be ready for printing at the end of summer.
Special arrangements are being made for shut-ins and rides will be arranged for those who need transportation. Every effort will be made to include all the members of First Lutheran in the 150th Anniversary edition of the Directory. A copy of the Directory will also be placed in the Time Capsule as part of the 150th Anniversary celebration.

Article Changes

I made some changes to the announcements that refer to an event with a specific time and place:

I created a calender event for the date and time and pasted the full event text there.
In the article add/edit page, I condensed the announcement text to a more basic description.
From the Calendar page I selected the event to view the event details page.
I copied the details page url address.
In the article add/edit page, I selected External Link for the Detail Type.
I pasted the url address in the External Link text box

Now the announcement is more streamlined and the full details are available through the announcement title and read more links, and it is listed on the events calendar.
Going forward, for announcements that refer to meetings or events, create the event in the calendar first and post all the details there. Then create the announcement with a more abbreviated description and point to the event for details.
