Jesus said, “‘Whoever welcomes a child . . . welcomes me’ (Matthew 18:5 CEB). Children are our present and our future, our hope, our teachers, our inspiration. They are full participants in the life of the church and in the realm of God.” (Safe Sanctuaries, p. 10)
God calls us to make our churches safe places, protecting children, youth, and other vulnerable persons from sexual and ritual abuse. God calls us to create communities of faith where children and adults grow safe and strong. Thus, we adopt this Safe Sanctuaries policy for reducing the risk of abuse of children, youth, and vulnerable adults in the ministries and activities of First Evangelical Lutheran Church (FELC).
This policy and its provisions shall apply to all staff and volunteers, clergy or lay, who have contact with children, youth, and vulnerable adults during church-sponsored events and activities.
In all of our ministries with children, youth, and vulnerable adults, FELC is committed to demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ. The liturgy for the Affirmation of Baptism describes the faith practices that grow out of our baptism (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, page 236). We are to “...live among God’s faithful people; hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper; proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed; serve all people following the example of Jesus; and strive for justice and peace in all the earth.”

Our Sunday School program is open to everyone. We offer classes for children age 2 – high school and also adults. All classes are offered at 9:15am. Our 2017 - 2018 Sunday School year began with Rally Day on September 10th and continues through mid-May. If your child will be attending we ask that you pick up or download and complete a registration form to complete and turn into the Sunday School. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call!
Confirmation class takes place on every 1st, 2nd, and 4th Wednesdays at 6:45 PM. We have a 3 year Confirmation Program typically for grades 6th-8th grade. The first year, the students will be required to meet 7 times throughout focusing on the Small Catechism and Lutheran theology as well as attending the Lenten meals and services with their Mentors. During these sessions, everybody will meet together. The second and third years will consist of one year focusing on the Bible and the other focusing on living out our Christian faith. This year is a Bible focused year and we are using the Colaborate Lutheran Confirmation Curriculum through Augsburg Fortress. John Smedema and Bryce Muenchow will assist in leading sessions with Heidi and the Pastor. If you have any questions, please contact the church office or our Youth & Family Leader, Heidi Muenchow.
Youth & Family Ministry
Youth are the church of the past, present, and future. First Lutheran has many opportunities for learning, growing in faith, having fun, and bonding with friends. With Milestone Ministry, your children celebrate special moments along their faith journey – starting with baptism. In addition to Sunday School, your children and family can continue to grow their faith by participating in:
Middle School Youth Group - Middle & Mighty (M&Ms)
High School Youth Group - CREW (Christians, Ready, Equipped, & Willing)
ELCA National Youth Gathering
Youth Missions Group
If you are looking to have a child or adult baptized into the membership of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, please call the Church Office at 920-885-4497. A meeting with one of our pastors is required prior to baptism.
First Lutheran offers many special events throughout the year. See our special events page for a listing of these activities. We hope you’ll join us and bring your friends and family members! All are welcome.
Please note that our church has implemented a security system. When visiting the church, please park in the parking lot behind the building and go to the door that is marked "Sanctuary or Friendship Hall". Press the buzzer to the left of the door and we will answer you and let you in if needed. Thank you!
