New to First Lutheran?

We’re excited that you have taken the time to explore what First Lutheran Church is all about! We hope we can introduce you to this welcoming body of Christ where there is room for all. We believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. With our hands, we do God’s work of restoring and reconciling communities in Jesus Christ’s name throughout the world. We are a church that belongs to Christ. There is a place for you here. We live in many different communities, span all ages, cultures and races and bring to this church unique life experiences and perspectives. Take a look at some common questions below and don’t hesitate to call or email the church office with any questions!

  • Depending on the worship style you connect with most, you can find both traditional and contemporary worship at First Lutheran.  First enjoys a relaxed community setting, with many informal, welcoming and fun parts of worship. Wednesday evening reflection is currently online only at 6pm, while weekend services include an 8 am Sunday service which is more traditional and the 10:00 am Sunday service is more contemporary with contemporary music groups offering praise music. There is always an uplifting message of hope offered by the pastor along with the open invitation to take communion whenever we gather as a community of believers. Currently, the nursery is closed due to COVID but First provides an engaging nursery for infants and toddlers during services every Sunday, large print bulletins for the vision impaired and hearing devices for the hearing impaired are available.

  • Whether you’re bringing your first baby to be baptized or your teenager to be confirmed in the faith, First Lutheran provides faith and fun throughout the stages of your family’s life together. First welcomes all ages to be involved and engaged and form great relationships. You’ll find new people to get to know and forge lasting friendships through the family events offered at First. Our Youth & Family Team can help select age appropriate events for your children and young adults. From youth gatherings out of state to local activities like bowling, the weekends and evenings can be as fun filled as your schedule allows. First also offers regular hours for the Upper Room after school during the work week and during the summer for those in Middle School (currently not open). The Upper Room is a great place to hang out, relax, make new friends and forge lasting relationships all in a safe environment with supervision.

  • Join others for informal Coffee Fellowship between services on Sunday and discover information about classes, fellowship events, small groups, study groups, youth activities and other great ways to meet people. Coffee Fellowship is available before and between worship services. Come early, stay late. We’d love to get to know everyone over coffee and conversation!.

  • There’s many opportunities at First so that everyone can easily find something that interests them. Explore Monday morning Bible Study, Women of the ELCA gatherings, classes throughout the year, and Adult Education opportunities which covers many topics such as Mission trips, pre-planning funerals, regional history, between services on many weekends. In the past, The WELCA (Women of the ELCA), and men’s ministry, MANPOWER, allow you to put your faith into action.

  • First Lutheran welcomes volunteers to assist with fundraising events, youth outings, Befrienders, LUAD (Lutherans United after Disaster), Liberia - Friendship International, and more. We are excited to welcome you as lay reader, assisting minister, usher team, teacher and more. Blessed bakers are called upon often for their wonderful baking skills for events and fundraisers.
